Navigating the Storm | Embracing the Virtual World

April 9, 2024  by Alaina Salas

In the wake of the 2020 pandemic, industries across the globe faced unprecedented challenges, forcing companies to adapt rapidly to survive. Among the significantly impacted industries was the meetings and events industry. Fueled by the power of human energy, the event industry is at its best when people are able to come together, solve problems, and share ideas. The pandemic demanded an abrupt shift to a completely virtual event environment. As a company that focuses on the production of live and virtual events, Tri-Marq immediately felt the strain of a world suddenly forced into their homes.

During this time, the entirety of the events industry faced the challenges of navigating to a fully virtual world. At Tri-Marq, we already had the knowledge to host and produce virtual events that still engaged and excited remote audiences. This experience meant that as the world and our clients shifted online, we became not only event producers, but also teachers. Leveraging technology at the time became imperative, as we had to explore new tools and find workarounds to continue to deliver quality work to our clients to accommodate the volume of events moving to the online sphere.

While the initial days of the pandemic were full of uncertainties, Tri-Marq adapted to a new workflow model, allowing us to continue our endeavors and overcome the many hurdles of quarantine. Beyond establishing ourselves as new workers from home, the pandemic offered us an opportunity to delve deeper into the world of virtual events, which had previously been a smaller portion of our business.

Of course we had to expand our arsenal of online event tools as well. We increased our Cloud presence and technology, researched, tested and learned about many virtual platforms, and brought in additional tech operators. One aspect we never steered away from was our tested and proven business practice of how we produce events. We approach virtual events the same way we produce in-person events: planning, pre-production and creating backup plans.

Today, we still find that it is imperative to produce and deliver quality events, both virtual and live – sometimes at the same time. While most events are shifting back to the in-person environment, some also include a virtual component to the meeting. Whether it is bringing a virtual speaker into the ballroom for the in-person audience or streaming a keynote session for viewers at home, clients have more options – and more needs – than ever.

The pandemic taught us a lot about the solidarity of our team and how, across all industries, not just the events industry, people strive to connect – even in times of separation. Tri-Marq continues to find the right solutions for our clients, whether in-person, virtual, or hybrid, to meet their needs to educate, entertain, and motivate their audiences.

We filmed and produced this recap video to recap the event and the experience of its over 22,000 attendees by capturing b-roll footage, as well as several interviews, over the course of the 3-day event.

By combining on-site interviews, showcasing the attendee experience, with dynamic b-roll, drone footage, and motion graphics, we brought the full Utility Expo experience to life.

This summer, we spent a day with Peyton Bornemann This summer, we spent a day with Peyton Bornemann and her family, capturing her story of courage and survival. In our work with @themaccfund each year, we have the chance to get to know some of the strongest kids in our area and how their lives have been impacted by the generosity of the MACC Fund and its supporters. We capture their stories to share at the annual Designed to Inspire fundraising event benefitting children who face cancer and other blood-related disorders. This year’s story features Peyton and the Bornemann family — with a little help from her horse, Maggie. We’re honored to help bring her story, and the MACC Fund’s mission, to life.💛
