Clarity in Motion | The Power of Animated Explainer Videos

July 17, 2025  by Alaina Salas

Explainer videos are an essential tool for brands looking to communicate complex ideas in a clear, engaging, and accessible way. Whether you’re introducing a new product, breaking down a process, or showcasing a compelling initiative, animation brings abstract ideas to life.

Animation gives you control over tone, pacing, and style. Whether your brand is sleek and techy or fun and approachable, motion graphics and design can be tailored to match your company brand. Additionally, motion graphics/animation doesn’t have the same constraints as live-action video. It allows the ability to streamline a story, highlight key moments, and move seamlessly between concepts.

Another advantage of animated explainer videos is their longevity. Because animated explainers aren’t tied to specific people, settings, or trends, they tend to have a longer shelf life than live-action content that becomes dated over time. This style makes them a smart investment for companies looking to create evergreen content for onboarding, internal training, or product education.

We can take several routes to design and create explainer videos, often incorporating 2D or 3D animation and motion graphics, kinetic text, etc. We can utilize a mix of both video and animation, like in the “Take Flight” Safety Video we created for Wilderness Resorts. In this project, we designed and animated their mascot, ‘Scout’ the dog. Then, we captured a professional actor portraying the Wilderness Guide using green screen technology. We seamlessly merged the two mediums, creating a fun interaction between Scout and the Guide that helped to deliver the serious and important message to keep families safe at the water park while remaining fun and friendly for all ages.

As another option, we can go the route of creating an entirely animated explainer video, relying solely on 2D or 3D graphics to portray the message, as we did in our collaboration with Schneider Trucking. This video was used for sales to demonstrate the features and benefits of their Bidsmart software RFP system. We created a catalogue of assets that included animated trucks, cityscapes, trees, roadways, etc., keeping in mind Schneider’s brand. The same assets were used across a series of videos for Schneider, providing economies of scale.

Our Process

Pre-Production:

Using the same creative strategy we bring to every production, we begin by understanding your goals to build a script and visual narrative. We make sure it aligns with your message and brand identity.

Design & Storyboards: Our creative team begins design and style frames, which lock in both the story and style. The goal is to generate a concept that aligns with your original vision and make edits to the story and flow before production. At this phase, collaboration with each client is fun but critical as it allows for an efficient production process.

Production & Animation: The fun begins with taking the style frames and visuals and bringing them to life in production. Voiceover narration is recorded to match the style of the video. We handle the whole process, ensuring every element is intentional and cohesive, along with a dynamic soundtrack with music and sound effects.

Whether it’s a standalone animated piece or motion graphics layered into live action, we design each explainer video to deliver clarity, maintain the viewer’s attention, and drive impact.

We shot this project in-studio and in-camera to perfect the black limbo effect. Using clean, crisp typography and illustrations, we highlighted the light's features/benefits. Other tricks we used: haze machine, jib arm, dolly, and a little bit of stop motion—just for fun.
