Beyond the Screen & Stage | Event Media Production: Episode 2 – Openers

January 22, 2024  by Alaina Salas

Next up in our series, we’re featuring event video openers. Start your meeting with a ‘bang’ by incorporating cinematic videos, motion graphics, or even sensory-based experiences like bubbles, falling water, or projection mapping! Opener videos set the tone for the meeting and grab the audience’s attention.

Historical Style – WI Hist Soc – Now is Our Time: Taking a historical approach to event openers, In 2010, Tri-Marq was hired by the Wisconsin Historical Society as their Show Producer for the “This is Our History. Now is Our Time” capital campaign gala, held at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin. The same gala was held in 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at The Pfister Hotel.

Tri-Marq created a series of videos telling the story of the Wisconsin Historical Society. The first of these videos is the anthem video that kicked off the gala. Throughout the evening, guests were taken on a visual journey of the state’s history.

To create the video, we interviewed educators and historians including John Gurda, Wisconsin’s premier historian. Through these interviews and b-roll footage of archives held at the Historical Society, the story weaves through all the important work the Wisconsin Historical Society does for the state.

Anthem Style – RedPrairie Commerce in Motion: Continuing our epic openers feature, we’re throwing it back to 2012 when we took on this project for RedPrairie featuring projection mapping, 3D animation, 130-foot screen and more! At the time of the event, RedPrairie was the second largest logistical software company in the US.

For this event, Tri-Marq mesmerized the audience with a 130-foot screen creating a seamless palette by blending 6 HD projectors to display 4.5 million pixels. Speakers made their stage entrance through custom hidden doors in the screen. We also used video projection mapping to wrap 3D imagery on custom set structures while 3D animation filled the panoramic wide screen, creating an immersive visual experience.

Tri-Marq managed 110 breakout sessions, three super sessions, transformed the ballroom for evening entertainment, and supported a 35,000-square-foot trade show.

Unique Stage Design – API Better Together: Our third and final installment of the openers category features ‘Better Together.’ This video opened the API Healthcare Annual Client Forum and takes a fun spin on the merging of API Healthcare and GE Healthcare.

Tri-Marq’s work on the 2014 Client Forum for API Healthcare, a division of GE Healthcare employed a five-screen approach for the event, held in Milwaukee. Tri-Marq directed multiple general sessions, breakouts, and an awards show for API. Two additional videos were created, including one to launch a new product for the company.

Stay tuned for next week’s feature to see our work with custom graphics for events.

We shot this project in-studio and in-camera to perfect the black limbo effect. Using clean, crisp typography and illustrations, we highlighted the light's features/benefits. Other tricks we used: haze machine, jib arm, dolly, and a little bit of stop motion—just for fun.

By sharing the experiences of real program participants, customers, or employees, interview-based videos build credibility with your audience and spread awareness about your program or product.

Each year, we work with Aurora Health Care to create a series of videos showcasing the experiences of the Residents in the Graduate Medical Education programs. The videos are a great tool for attracting prospective residents and demonstrating what sets Aurora apart from other graduate programs.
